One thing schools should teach

What’s a thing you wish schools actually taught?

To use your mind, become a critical thinker.

At least where I live now this is not the case. Schools mostly focus on teaching word-by-word what’s in a book. During exams kids have to tick the correct answer that’s provided for them. They don’t have to use their own vocabulary and logical thinking. Kids are not required to express themselves with their own words. They are taught to repeat, not to think.

These days when kids’ minds are bombarded with absolutely unnecessary things through advertising and social media, the ones who create answers for them lead the minds of kids. This I find dangerous.

Children are vulnerable. Their minds are like a sponge, children are very sensitive to influences and they should be taught to see patterns, learn skills that develop their brains and help them to become humans with a healthy self esteem.

These days schools follow a strange custom whereby it is not learning that takes the front row but inclusivity and at the same time separation. Separation because only those who get a healthy education at home will flourish later, the others will become the large population that will be lead. The population who believes fake news.

Schools should teach every child to think, use their minds, develop critical thinking skills and social skills that we all so badly need.

We used to have a wonderful educational system here. It provided equal possibilities to everyone regardless of social backgrounds or status. This was the strength of our society. Everyone had the chance to become anything they wanted if they were disciplined enough and put the work in.

It is ruined by now. The school system has been modified to suit the present political system.

Before we did not let politics interfere with the younger generations. We wanted to educate them so they had all the choices and skills to create their best future.

I hope there are still many of us who remember how a healthy society is built and we shall scale back by putting learning to use the mind in schools. As we used to.
